What Are The Best Carb Blockers – A 2015 Review

When you’re trying to lose weight, there are several supplements that claims to make the dieting easier. You have starch blockers (also known as carbohydrate blockers) and “fat burners” which are said to increase your metabolism and help you burn more fat. With all the different diet products and supplements on the market today, it’s easy to get confused. All the products claim that they’ll make you lose weight, but at the same time they are totally different.

I’ve written reviews on some of the more popular diet products here earlier, but today I’d like to zoom out and look at the market from a birds-view. It’s important to point out that non of these products will work very well in isolation. They are called supplements for a reason! For the best effect, you should combine them with exercise and lower your calories. However, they are perfect as a kick-start, or to get more out of your diet.

My Experience With White Kidney Bean Extract — Reviews and Results

I recently tested this product, as a part of my review-series here on this blog. I tested kidney bean extract (from here) over a period of one month, and noted down any changes, and experiences such as side-effects and appetite.

On a side note: It has in the past been used clinically for its cardiac benefits. It has even been speculated that it may have effects in other cells of the body such as platelet and thyroid cells preventing dangerous platelet aggregation and adhesions, possibly preventing the growth of tumor cell growth and cancer metastasis although there has been no extensive research to support this.

My review and opinion

Like I said earlier, my experience with forskolin has been a pretty positive one. I took a dosage of 250mg of pure, natural forskolin every morning and within a week I noticed the pounds coming off.

I’m not the only one I’ve known to have such a great experience. My Review of Pure Coffee Bean Extract

When I first heard of green tea extract and its use as a weight loss supplement I was skeptical.

I mean, It has been preached about on the Dr. Oz show, by the guy who has a different solution to all of your health problems in every single episode!

But through my strange interest in these seemingly stupid fad diet products I have lost belly fat and trimmed down my thighs quite a bit and green tea extract is a product that helped me more than any other single product.

To lose weight, you have to work out

Running on the treadmill will burn calories, so will other exercise. However, it’s not mandatory to lose weight. It’s possible to lose weight simply by changing you diet.

If you boil it down to the simple facts, weight loss is a matter of calories out vs. calories in. By exercising you will increase the calories out, and shift this formula in your favor. By eating healthier you will decrease the calories in — also in your favor.

Outside of dieting, exercise is important — so don’t take this as an excuse to slack off. The point is just that exercise, though important for your overall health, isn’t that important for weight loss.

Eating late in the evening will make you fat

“Don’t eat after 6PM” (or 7PM, 8PM or whatever time in the evening). We’ve all heard this, even from fitness experts and gurus. Time is a human invention, and there is no scientific evidence that eating after a certain time will make you gain weight.

However, eating large meals late often indicates eating poorly for the rest of the day. (text emphasized by me)

Late lunch eaters lost less weight and displayed a slower weight-loss rate during the 20 weeks of treatment than early eaters (P=0.002). Surprisingly, energy intake, dietary composition, estimated energy expenditure, appetite hormones and sleep duration was similar between both groups.

Carbohydrates makes you fat

It’s hard to know what to believe anymore — especially when it comes to carbohydrates. Some people seem to think that carbs is the only reason why people today are more obese than earlier times, while others say it doesn’t matter — it’s just the overall calorie intake that’s important.

The root to this confusion is probably because most comfort foods and snacks are high in carbs and low in protein. But the same is true if you look at calories: snacks have a much higher calorie density than normal healthy food.

Research also shows that completely cutting your carbohydrates intake, or eating less than 130 grams per day will negatively affect your brain function.

Eating many small meals throughout the day will boost your metabolism

Eating small portion-controlled meals every few hours does not boost your metabolism at all. However, eating small meals every few hours makes it easier to stick to your diet. It also helps against sugar and junk food cravings.

We all know the same old “eat less, exercise more” phrase. I won’t argue with thermodynamics and physics — I would lose.

However, there are several things you can do to accelerate your diet. Let’s say you’re losing a pound a month now, and you would like to double this — how would you do that?

Make sure you drink enough water — and then some

Did you know that most people live in a state of mild dehydration– constantly? It’s true.

If you don’t drink enough water, your body will work on idle. You will feel less energixed, which in turn makes you burn less calories. By making sure you drink enough water, you will benefit in a lot of areas: you’ll feel more energized, sleep better and get better skin.

“Water’s involved in every type of cellular process in your body, and when you’re dehydrated, they all run less efficiently — and that includes your metabolism. Think of it like your car: if you have enough oil and gas, it will run more efficiently. It’s the same with your body.”

“Your metabolism is basically a series of chemical reactions that take place in your body,” says Trent Nessler, PT, DPT, MPT, managing director of Baptist Sports Medicine in Nashville. “Staying hydrated keeps those chemical reactions moving smoothly.” Being even 1% dehydrated can cause a significant drop in metabolism.

Drinking enough water also has the added benefit of making you feel less hungry. Sugar cravings, or feelings of hunger, are often a signal that you’re thirsty — and not hungry!

Chew your food better

When you start eating, there is a delay between your feeling of hunger and feeling full. If you are eating fast, this will cause you to eat too much.

Generally, your body is pretty good at telling you when you should eat and when enough is enough. However, if you eat fast and swallow your food whole, your brain can’t keep up with it.

This is an old advice, and many might brush it off as “bro-science”. However, a recent study in China showed that obese men were faster eaters than their skinny counterparts. The same study showed that men who chewed their food 40 times or more lost 12% more than those who chewed it 15 times or less.

Compared with lean participants, obese participants had a higher ingestion rate and a lower number of chews per 1 g of food. However, obese participants had a bite size similar to that of lean subjects. Regardless of status, the subjects ingested 11.9% less after 40 chews than after 15 chews. Compared with 15 chews, 40 chews resulted in lower energy intake and postprandial ghrelin concentration and higher postprandial glucagon-like peptide 1 and cholecystokinin concentrations in both lean and obese subjects.

Walk more — It’s some of the best exercise you can get after a meal

Many might think that a walk is nothing compared to sweating at the gym. You might burn more calories per amount of time in the gym — I’ll give you that. But a quick walk after a meal has another benefit, it activates your Glut-4 receptors. These receptors will absorb the glucose (sugar) from the meal you just had. It does not have to be a long walk. 5-15 minutes is more than plenty.
